The purpose of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Jacksonville·Onslow Chamber of Commerce is (1) to foster good relations among and between business and elected and/or appointed government officials on the local, state and federal levels; (2) to monitor and make recommendations to the Board of Directors for action upon specific legislative issues on behalf of the business community of Onslow County; and (3) to lay the groundwork for orderly economic growth and visionary change for the community.

The formally stated purpose of the committee, its mission, was adopted in 1997 and readsThe mission of the Governmental Affairs Committee is to serve as a liaison to government on behalf of business to influence, inform and promote constructive government/business relations.

It is a vital, informal communication link among the government bodies of the Jacksonville City Council, Onslow County Board of Commissioners, members of the N.C. House of Representatives and the N.C. Senate who represent any or all of Onslow County, and members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate who represent any or all of Onslow County.

Membership on the Governmental Affairs Committee is available to those persons who own or who are employed by businesses which are members in good standing of the Jacksonville/Onslow Chamber of Commerce and to individuals who are members in good standing.  Applications can be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce.
