The purpose of the Governmental
Affairs Committee of the Jacksonville·Onslow
Chamber of Commerce is (1) to foster good relations among and
between business and elected and/or appointed government officials
on the local, state and federal levels; (2) to monitor and make
recommendations to the Board of Directors for action upon specific
legislative issues on behalf of the business community of Onslow
County; and (3) to lay the groundwork for orderly economic growth
and visionary change for the community.
The formally stated purpose of the
committee, its mission, was adopted in 1997 and reads: The
mission of the Governmental Affairs Committee is to serve as a
liaison to government on behalf of business to influence, inform and
promote constructive government/business relations.
It is a vital, informal communication
link among the government bodies of the Jacksonville City Council,
Onslow County Board of Commissioners, members of the N.C. House of
Representatives and the N.C. Senate who represent any or all of
Onslow County, and members of the U.S. House of Representatives and
U.S. Senate who represent any or all of Onslow County.
Membership on the Governmental Affairs
Committee is available to those persons who own or who are employed
by businesses which are members in good standing of the
Jacksonville/Onslow Chamber of Commerce and to individuals who are
members in good standing. Applications can be obtained at the
Chamber of Commerce.
